In 1998, three friends, Bennett McPhatter, Christopher Westphal, and David O'Connor saw a significant need
within the intelligence, law enforcement and commercial communities to find better ways to access, integrate,
and analyze their data. The three collaborated to create a product that would change the technology industry
forever. The trio designed and created the technologies that would become mainstream systems used the majority
of Government agencies. Their Poolesville-based Visual Analytics Incorporated (VAI) has established itself as a
leading provider of visual data mining services and related products. The three were determined to develop the
best analytic technology on the market, provide a work environment that would promote employee retention and
advancement, and share in the success of the company. VAI offers a variety of services ranging from application
of visual data mining to the development of distributed computing architectures. The Company's pattern discovery
software is used to hunt for clues for a variety of financial crimes, law enforcement and insurance fraud
investigations. It is also being employed by government agencies in the war against terrorism. VAI is entirely
self-funded and has no outstanding debt and has been profitable each and every year since its inception.
