Rememberance of 911

In Honor of Hugh S. McPhatter

Hugh McPhatter, a dea60r member of our VAI family, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009. Visual Analytics would like to pay tribute to Hugh by acknowledging his accomplishments, here at VAI and throughout his life's endeavors.

Hugh was a devoted family man. He, with his late wife Renna, raised two successful children of their own and took in and raised a child in need as one of their own. Hugh has four grandchildren of whom he was very proud. Hugh loved his family very much and spoke highly of each one of them.

Hugh was an immensely intelligent man, with specialties in engineering and marine biology, and a bit of knowledge of just about everything else. He was an intriguing, funny, charming man who most would call "a character." Hugh was a gifted story teller who often entertained others with stories from his life experiences. He enjoyed sharing his stories and was particularly proud of his service to his country as a U.S. Navy Officer.

Hugh was a generous, honest, helpful, thoughtful and thought-provoking man who inspired and encouraged many to rise to heights they would never have believed attainable. Above all, Hugh was a warm and kind man who put others before himself.

Hugh was an active member of the Poolesville community, as a business owner, a member of the Poolesville Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Izaak Walton League. Hugh enjoyed playing pool and riding horses. He thoroughly enjoyed working at Visual Analytics. Hugh enjoyed meeting new people, being with friends and family, writing papers for VAI, and most simply, just enjoyed life.

He will be missed by all who knew him.

     Hugh, My Friend

Though words can little explain
the sorrow that is felt,
for the pain you were in,
it's what God had dealt.

But knowing you are smiling
in the heavens above
makes it a bit easier
knowing you'll be loved.

We thank Thee for sharing you
for the short time that we had.
It was worth all the while
'cause you were an interesting lad!

You left an impression, Hugh
as our lives would not be the same.
For everyone who knew you --
you left a bit of your fame.

One day we will join you
when God has his plan
drawn up for each one of us
as God holds you in his hands.

We carry on your memory
as we reminisce over each story
and we will miss you dearly
as you rise to His glory.
