Technical Writer / Documenter |
This position requires a creative and imaginative individual capable of generating a wide range of materials to describe and support the operations and features of our advanced product suites (VisuaLinks and DIG). The required skill set includes technical writing/editing, online documentation, simulations, interactive help, and other related items.
Job Description
The Technical Writer / Documenter will be responsible for interacting with software engineers, technical support and testing personnel to maintain documentation and training materials required to support our software solutions. In addition, the Technical Writer / Documenter will work with the executive staff, graphic artists and web designers to create materials to support software sales and marketing.
This individual will create of a wide range of deliverables for use by the VAI user community.
- Design, develop and maintain production documentation programs including printed and online
deliverables (Installation Guides, Administration Guides, User's Guides, Online Help, Release Notes, etc.)
- Design, develop and maintain product training including sample scenarios, relevant training aids and interactive, web-based training content
- Work with technical support and software engineers to develop and maintain user support materials such as knowledgebase content, troubleshooting aids and other relevant material
- Design and develop interactive support programs
- Design and implement documentation styles and templates
- Collaborate on and contribute to print- and web-based sales and marketing campaigns
Technical Requirements
Technical knowledge and 3+ years of experience in the following:
- Planning and defining the content of documentation and training programs
- RoboHelp and other Macromedia products (Flash or Captivate)
- Microsoft Office products (PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
- Good organization skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks to simultaneously handle several projects
- Database experience a plus
Education Requirement A degree in English, Journalism or Technical Communication
Location of Position VAI Headquarters (currently located in Poolesville, MD; relocating to Frederick, MD summer of 2008)
Travel On an as-needed basis
Citizenship Required U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required
Clearance Requirements No security clearance is required for this position, however ability to hold a clearance is preferred and a background check will be performed on any individual accepting a position with Visual Analytics Inc.

Senior Support Engineer |
Visual Analytics Inc., a leading developer of analytical and information sharing software for use by law enforcement agencies, the intelligence community, and corporate businesses, is in need of a full-time Senior Support Engineer for onsite work at a federal government (U.S. Department of the Treasury) site in Tyson's Corner, Virginia.
This position will be based at the client site and will require the individual to support and represent the VisuaLinks and DIG software, interact extensively with the client user base, keep the software systems operational, troubleshoot problems, provide training and local support, and help expand use of the system throughout the enterprise. This position requires an individual who is analyical, technical, personable and capable of growing Visual Analytics' contract presence at the client site.

Esssential Duties, Responsibilities & Qualifications
Analytical focus - to represent the VisuaLinks and DIG software
Logic and reasoning capabilities
Outstanding interpersonal skills for customer interaction
Strong database capabilities (Sybase 12.5, MySQL)
Basic network and protocol knowledge
Experience with SQL and XML/XSL a plus
Flexible, adaptable, and responsive to client needs
Must be able to install and administer the following:
VisuaLinks software
DIG software
MySQL (and some Sybase)
Application servers (e.g., Tomcat)
Web severs (e.g., IIS, Apache)
Good understanding of .NET
Must be comfortable working with the following hardware:
Dell servers, desktops, and laptops
Plotters and printers
SANS network storage
UNIX a plus (not mandatory)
