System Design
VisuaLinks® is an analytical software solution designed to integrate various data sources to give users a simple, graphical look at the data and the information it contains.
VisuaLinks was built specifically to address the need for better, faster, more accurate analysis by making data visually readable and applying rules that show relationships between entities by taking rows and columns of data values and turning them into pictures representing different types of entities, e.g., person, address, phone, ID, weapon, vehicle, etc. VisuaLinks then draws the relationships between these entities based on the values found in the data.
VisuaLinks includes a comprehensive analytical tool set designed to enable both reactive and proactive analysis, regardless of the analytical purpose. VisuaLinks can be used in any company, organization or agency to perform any type of analysis - from counterterrorism and narcotics trafficking to waste, fraud and abuse.
While a cornerstone of VisuaLinks' capabilities is its ability to help analysts recognize known patterns in data through visual representation, its true power lies in helping analysts to discover new and emerging patterns and trends. VisuaLinks gives users a variety of truly unique link analysis tools including:
- Placement techniques that show your data in networks of related data
- The ability to find and display relationships based on entity or relationship type
- Geospatial layouts that place data on regional, graphical maps
- Statistical functions that can be applied to data lists to create summaries
- Tools that create associations based on values shared between entities
- Filtering tools that show data based on type, values, and relationship weights.

System Design
VisuaLinks was developed specifically to sit between your data and your users, integrating your existing data stores to create a single, more user-friendly view of the data to your users, completely removing the need for users to construct complex SQL queries or manually review volumes of irrelevant data. VisuaLinks connects directly to your operational data stores, ensuring that data being used for analysis is always current. This design requires no copying or moving of the data itself.
VisuaLinks' client / server architecture gives it the utmost in deployment flexibility. VisuaLinks can be:
- Installed in a stand-alone environment where the Server and Client both run on a single machine
- Run in an enterprise environment where many users connect to and work with the data managed by the Server
VisuaLinks supports user access through:
- An installed application where each user accessing the data has a locally installed Client on his or her workstation
- A web browser where users access the data managed by the Server through a fully-functional applet or web start Client launched from a URL
- A simple thin client with minimal functionality reducing system resource requirements
With its flexible client/server architecture, VisuaLinks enables data sharing and collaboration in- and outside of any organization.
The Server component manages all access to data sources, using a well-defined and proven authorization process to grant or deny permissions to data. This means that organizations can share data, internally and externally, with only those users with appropriate permissions. VisuaLinks can grant or deny permissions to individual users or groups of users. VisuaLinks also integrates with LDAP systems, and the Active Directory Service specifically, to allow you to incorporate already defined groups of users into your analytical environment.
